The Master Battery-UPM Chair holds its first technical conference on BESS and grid resilience
Madrid, 25 June 2025 - The Master Battery Chair of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) is organising its first technical conference on Tuesday 8 July 2025, under the title ‘Contribution of BESS battery storage to the flexibility and resilience of the electricity grid’.
The meeting will be held at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería y Diseño Industrial (ETSIDI-UPM), in the Red Room, and is aimed at professionals from the energy sector, researchers, teachers and students interested in the role of energy storage in the energy transition.
During the conference, renowned experts from the UPM, IMDEA Energía and CIEMAT will address key issues such as the architecture and useful life of BESS storage systems, their integration into the electricity grid, and their role in improving the flexibility and resilience of the energy system.
The event will be attended by:
- Francisco Santos, director of the ETSIDI-UPM, in charge of the institutional opening.
- Julio Amador (UPM), who will present the Master Battery Chair.
- Alberto Abanades (UPM), who will talk about storage as a key to the energy transition.
- Jesús Palma (IMDEA Energía) and Marcos Lafoz (CIEMAT), who will present technical and integration aspects of BESS systems.
- A final round table with all the speakers will close the day.
