Master Battery reinforces its commitment to the university following the appointment of its co-CEO, Juan Carlos Hernández, as a member of the URJC Social Council

Móstoles (Madrid), 8 June 2026. Juan Carlos Hernández, co-CEO of Master Battery, has been appointed as a member of the Social Council of Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC) to represent the interests of civil society, in accordance with the resolution approved by the Governing Council of the Community of Madrid and published in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid (BOCM).

With this appointment, Hernández joins the body that channels society’s participation in the university and acts as a bridge between the academic sphere and the business and institutional sectors. His term of office will last four years.

The agreement of the Governing Council of the Community of Madrid also provides for the appointment of Juan Antonio Martín Molero, director of Pastelerías Manacor, as a member of the URJC Social Council. Both replace Juan Abarca Cidón, president of HM Hospitales, and Marcelino Oreja Arburúa, former CEO of Enagás and current director and investor in companies in the energy sector, who had held these positions until their departure in August 2025.

The appointment of Juan Carlos Hernández to the URJC Social Council recognises his business career and his commitment to collaboration between universities and industry as a driving force for economic development, innovation and the cultivation of talent.

“Universities play an essential role in training the professionals who will lead the major changes in our economy. Being able to contribute through the URJC Social Council is both a responsibility and an opportunity to strengthen the link between academic knowledge and the real needs of businesses and society,” says Juan Carlos Hernández.

In his role as co-CEO of Master Battery, alongside Héctor Plaza, Hernández has championed a strategy centred on innovation and sustainability in energy storage, whilst collaborating with centres of expertise to tackle the challenges of the energy transition and industrial transformation.

Functions of the URJC Social Council

The main functions of the Social Council of the Rey Juan Carlos University include supervising and promoting university activities, enhancing the quality of teaching and research, approving the institution’s budgets and accounts, and strengthening relations with businesses and institutions. It plays a key role in ensuring that the university remains closely attuned to the needs and demands of society.

Master Battery also works closely with the academic sector and the educational community through Ciudadenergía, its business transformation and development project and its main platform for communication, outreach and engagement with the energy ecosystem. Through this initiative, the company promotes projects focused on innovation, applied research and talent development.

Among these, the Master Battery–Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) Chair stands out, fostering knowledge transfer between the university and the company in areas linked to the energy transition and energy storage. The creation of this chair reflects the company’s commitment to knowledge generation, the training of professionals and the development of innovative solutions for the energy challenges of the future.

For Master Battery, this appointment reinforces its commitment to talent, innovation and knowledge transfer – strategic areas for the company’s sustainable growth and for strengthening the business, technological and educational ecosystem of the Community of Madrid, with a particular focus on the city of Móstoles.
